  2. Thank you David, for taking me to 'Man's World' gym when I was all of about 10 years old. You included me as friend, a colleague, and a daughter all at the same time. I felt supported and challenged. That brilliant experience with you and your buddies helped propel me on a lifelong path of enjoying pushing myself physically, enjoying my body and having fun at it. Bless you David, for the love and care you continued to share with my family through annual calendars and reaching out when possible. Bless you...you are missed. from 'little Suzanne'

You will be dearly missed. I will always remember you as a gentle soul with an open heart...always smiling. You made Arianna so happy. I noticed how your eyes would light up and sparkle when Arianna was nearby. Your friend, Cydney

  6. David was truly a special person. I worked with him at Business Automation ever since we opened the office in China Grove in 1993. He was an excellent co-worker and an incredible person and a real friend. He could always find time to help anyone who needed it and worked many nights and weekends when something urgent came up that needed to be completed for me or one of our customers. He was an incredibly giving person. We will all miss him very much and remember him fondly. We send you our sincerest sympathy. Our thoughts and prayers are with you.

  11. David was always ready to help. No matter where he was or what he was doing. He would always be there to take care of even the smallest emergency. As his client we will miss his expertise. But more than that we will miss his good humor and friendship. I am thankful that was able to know him. With sympathy, our thoughts and prayers are with you.

  12. To Bob, Lee, Kathy & June:
Randy had to be one of the finest men I have ever known. I will always remember his integrity, devotion, and wonderful sense of humor. I also remember him as being deeply spiritual; and I hope this will help you deal with the loss of your son and brother. I am praying for your peace and comfort now, and for your eventual joy in sharing the wonderful memories that Randy left us all. God bless you.

  14. David was a special person. Although he was in North Carolina and I am in California, we worked together for many years serving BAI's customers. He was always willing to tackle any job I gave him to do. It didn't matter how tedious or difficult it was. Our customers had nothing but good things to say about him. I never received one complaint from any customer he serviced. My prayers are with all of you, and I want you to know he will be missed and remembered. His humor was unique, and sometimes just what you needed when talking with him.

  17. During the late 70's, I received a gift set of Irish Mist and glasses from Randy. Over thirty years later I found myself having another Irish coffee, as I toasted my old high school friend. My deepest sympathies to Mr. Carpenter, Lee, Cathy, and June.

  18. To the Carpenter Family.
I was Randy's football coach when he attended Altivista High School. I have coached and taught high school for over thirty years. I have worked thousands of yourg men in my career. I would put Randy at the top of the list as the finest young man I have ever work with. I named my son, Randy Coffman, after him when he was born in 1969 in Lynchburg, Va. I was saddened to hear of his passing.

  20. High school seems so long ago, and yet the memories can come back as fresh as if they happened yesterday. Remembering Randy is remembering all the qualities we all want rolled into one person. He was just the best and I can't imagine how much he will be missed by all who loved him. Thanks for all the good memories, Randy!

  21. As a former classmate of David's in Altavista I was surprised to find he was an almost neighbor when I moved to NC 4 years ago. It was a pleasure to talk with him again, relive all the misconceptions of high school, (there were many!), and learn of his success as a father, fireman, and community member. I know many people will miss his engaging personality and warmth, and his ability to connect so easily to acquaintances both past and present. Sincerest condolences to his family, Arianna, and close friends.

  22. I knew Randy from way back when. We played football together and went through Elementary and High School together in Altavista. He was always a close friend and I will truely miss him even though we have not seen each other for many years. He was always an outstanding guy. My prayers are with his family and friends, May the LORD be with you in your time of sorrow. The next class reunion will be our greatest as it will never end. See you there Randy!

  23. I went thru 12 years of public school with Randy; a great student, a fine athlete, and a wonderful friend. I saw him at high school reunions over the years; the last in Oct of 2010. He was just as warm and engaging then as he was in high school. My condolences go out to his family and friends.

  25. Dave, You were one of the nicest guys and a most valued teammate and opponent. I first met you when we were rookies trying to make the Met NY Side. We both talked about playing for Old Blue but I couldn't make the switch. You were a perfect Old Blue and traveling from Trenton and later Hightstown showed how truly dedicated you were to them -- a perfect Old Blue teammate. You took me in during the summer of 1977 in Trenton and I was very grateful. But, I didn't know my new roomie required me to go to the gym everyday as well as sample the cases of Iron Horse beer you brought home as a perk for working at the brewery.(at least it wasn't champale) My best memories were our days playing 7's together traveling to various tournaments in the late 70's. You were a great guy and a true friend to everyone. You will be missed.

  26. I worked with David for 4 years in NC as a fellow programmer (1994-1998). He was one of the smartest men I knew - so bright that you had to stay very alert to keep up with him! Moreover, David was a good man, kind and caring. His son was his always his first priority; he loved that little boy. His dedication to his family, his work, himself as a person and as a healhty individual was well known. He used to reheat some of the most God-awful things at work but they were healthy! I hadn't spoken to him in over a year but I know that Joshua always remained his #1 priority, that he always loved his parents, and that he died a happy man since he died while exercising. Bye, David. See you on the other side.

  27. I'll always remember Randy as a person who never gave up even in the worst circumstances. As an athlete he excelled in track and football even after sustaining a football injury that should have ended his track carrear As a person he was an example of how life should be lived. A true leader. Our family extends our sympathies to all his family both in Carolina and Altavista VA, especially to Bob, Lee, Kathy and June.

  28. He was truly one of the quintessential rugby players of our time. Even though we played against each other(New York vs Old Blue,1974-1988) we always shared great moments off the pitch. In fact the highlight was when we played together on a pickup team in a tournament at the Jersey shore and lost in the finals. What a a great day it was, in particular , to play with Dave instead of against him. You will surely be missed. May you have a fine run on that Great Pitch in the sky................my deepest condolences to the family and friends.....

  29. We knew Randy back in the 70's when he would visit in our home as he was a classmate of my sister. He would play with our children and ate many meals at our table. He was a great guy, smart, fun to be with and always made you laugh. We ran into him several years ago at KFC and he came and ate with us and his personality had not changed a bit. We will always remember him fondly and send you our sincere sympathy.

  30. What wonderful memories I have of times past. The world has lost a wonderful man. I have lost a dear friend. Holidays are a hard time to lose someone so we must look to those fond memories to help us through. We can look back on a life well lived. The Last Alarm has sounded and it's time for you to go home. We will miss you!

  31. I first met David on the soccer field in 1999 (I thought he was old then). I was the high school defender and he was the first (and only) ref to give me a yellow card. Little did I know that not that long down the road I would be able to call him a co-worker and friend. In the short time that I got to know him, I learned that he was a great man who had deep love and devotion for his family and those close to him (something that I experienced at the 2010 Summer Banquet playing putt-putt with him and his sweetie). I enjoyed getting to talk with him in depth and always came out better from it. He will be missed greatly and will always have an impact on my life. Rest in peace friend.

  32. Normally at this time of year I would be sending a note to David to let him know how much fun we had on Christmas morning checking out the pictures he had selected for the annual Jordan Family Calendar. But this is not a normal year. You left us too soon, David.
